School elections are conducted by the chief electoral officer of Yukon under the Education Act.
School General Elections - Monday, October 4, 2010
The general election of school councils and the Yukon Francophone School Board will take place this year.
Nomination papers will be available at the Elections Office and from school offices starting Monday, September 13, 2010. Nomination papers must be filed with the returning officer for the school before noon on nomination day.
Nomination Day is Thursday, September 23, 2010
- Returning officers for school councils in Whitehorse and immediate area and the Yukon Francophone School Board will be at the Elections Office in the main Government of Yukon administration building on Second Avenue between 10:00 a.m. and noon on this day to accept candidates' nomination papers.
- Candidates for school councils in other communities in Yukon must file their nomination papers with the returning officers for their schools before noon on September 23.
- A candidate must be eligible to vote at a school election.
Polling Day is Monday, October 4, 2010
- Voting will take place in each school.
- The hours for voting are 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- The names of candidates and voting information will be posted on this page after nomination day.
An elector must be on polling day:
- 18 years of age or older
- a Canadian citizen
- a resident in the attendance area or the parent of a child attending the school.
An elector voting for trustees of the Yukon Francophone School Board and a candidate must also have French first-language rights under section 23 of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Five trustees will be elected to the Yukon Francophone School Board.
An elector voting for members of school councils for Christ the King Elementary, Holy Family and Vanier Catholic Secondary Schools must also be recognized by the Catholic Episcopal Corporation.
