School Elections School elections are conducted by the chief electoral officer of Yukon under the Education Act.

School General Elections - Monday, October 6, 2008

Nomination papers will be available at the Elections Office and from school offices starting Monday, September 15, 2008. Nomination papers must be filed with the returning officer for the school before noon on nomination day.

Nomination Day is Thursday, September 25, 2008.

  • Returning officers for school councils in Whitehorse and immediate area will be at the Elections Office in the main Government of Yukon administration building on Second Avenue between 10:00 a.m. and noon on this day to accept candidates' nomination papers.
  • Candidates for school councils in other communities in Yukon must file their nomination papers with the returning officers for their schools before noon on September 25.
  • A candidate must be eligible to vote at a school election.

Polling Day is Monday, October 6, 2008

  • Voting will take place in each school.
  • The hours for voting are 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • The names of candidates and voting information will be posted on this page after nomination day.

An elector must be on polling day:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • a Canadian citizen
  • a resident in the attendance area or the parent of a child attending the school.

An elector voting for members of school councils for Christ the King Elementary, Holy Family and Vanier Catholic Secondary Schools must also be recognized by the Catholic Episcopal Corporation.
